This should be obvious, but I’ll reiterate: make sure to proofread your articles multiple times. If spelling isn't your strong suit, consider using tools like Grammarly—it’s free and user-friendly. This will help you avoid unnecessary errors and improve grammar, ensuring your articles don't appear poorly constructed.
When readers come across your piece, they should not feel like they’re reading something hastily written. Ensure proper formatting by including a title, subtitle, and breaking your content into manageable paragraphs of three to five sentences. This will enhance readability, especially on mobile devices, so include some visuals to break up the text.
Be Engaging and Genuine
Your writing should captivate and resonate with readers. When it stands out, it fosters a loyal audience.
Over the past two and a half years on Medium, I’ve accumulated over 58,000 followers and more than half a million reads. One reason for my success is that my writing is distinctive. As a reader on this platform, think about how many articles you bypass before selecting one to read.
Many pieces blend together—generic titles, uninspired images, and repetitive topics. I invest considerable effort into creating eye-catching titles and appealing visuals to capture attention. However, it’s crucial to deliver valuable content once you have someone’s interest.
I infuse personality and humor into my writing. I often employ casual language that resonates with many readers. Making people laugh is a great way to keep them coming back for more.
Write About Timely Topics
I published an article just 90 minutes after hearing about Trump's conviction. Writing about timely events can significantly increase your readership.
In today's fast-paced information age, people expect prompt coverage of news and opinions. Writing about outdated topics will not attract much interest. For instance, when Donald Trump faced legal issues, I realized it was critical to act swiftly. Within an hour and a half, I had an article published that garnered over 2000 claps and 125 reads in under a day. Timeliness pays off; my article earned approximately $50 in its first 24 hours.
Support Your Fellow Writers
Engagement with fellow Medium writers is vital. Mutual support leads to shared success.
If you want to build a substantial following, interacting with and uplifting other writers is crucial. Acknowledge those who engage with your content by reciprocating their support.
Writing on Medium should foster a sense of community. When someone claps or comments on your article, return the favor by engaging with their work. While time is a valuable resource, I strive to connect with my followers as much as possible.
Despite my busy schedule of writing two to three articles daily, I make it a point to engage with others. Ignoring your peers could hinder your growth and earnings on the platform.
Consistency is Key
Maintaining a consistent writing schedule is essential for maximizing earnings.
Many struggle to produce enough content on Medium. Some suggest focusing on one high-quality piece per week, but I believe in the opposite approach. I aim to publish around 80 articles monthly, and every single one of my articles earns some revenue.
The more you write, the higher the chance that one of your pieces will catch the attention of Medium curators or Boost nominators. I'd rather have 80 opportunities for recognition than just four each month.
Simplicity Leads to Success on Medium
If you adhere to these straightforward strategies, you can increase your Medium earnings.
Achieving four-figure monthly income on Medium is attainable, but it requires effort and commitment. Many writers either fail to invest the necessary time or are too concerned about others’ opinions to express themselves freely.
Focus on your unique voice and write often, ensuring your work is polished before sharing it. Remember, supporting others in the community is crucial for your own success. There’s ample space for more writers at the top, and I hope to see some of you there as well.
