Exploring the Concept of God: Science, Miracles, and Humanity

Chapter 1: The Inspiration Behind the Thoughts
I don't often pen down reflections like this, but recent experiences have inspired me to express my thoughts on a deeply personal subject. The topic of God is incredibly subjective, and I felt compelled to break away from my usual writing style. Thus, I'm sharing my spontaneous thoughts on this matter. Just yesterday, I watched two films on Netflix: "The Theory of Everything" and "Miracles from Heaven."
For those who haven't seen these films, I recommend watching them to grasp the context of my reflections. "The Theory of Everything" chronicles the life of renowned scientist Stephen Hawking, focusing on his groundbreaking contributions to the understanding of time and the universe. His journey has inspired millions through his discoveries and writings. In contrast, "Miracles from Heaven" tells the true story of a young girl who claims to have encountered God in heaven, where she was promised healing from a terminal illness.
Both films share striking similarities and differences, but the most notable aspect is that they are based on true events featuring miraculous occurrences, typically attributed to a divine entity. However, skeptics often argue against the existence of such a being. Personally, I find myself uncertain; I have never witnessed a miracle or met someone who has. Watching these films sparked a series of questions in my mind. For instance, once upon a time, there was no cure for typhoid. Now that we have effective treatments, should we consider this a miracle from God or the result of relentless scientific research? Similarly, while we currently lack a vaccine for COVID-19, it is scientists who are tirelessly working to develop one. If a vaccine is created, who deserves the credit?
So, what is God? For me, science embodies the essence of God. Humanity's quest to uncover scientific truths is what drives progress. Until a scientific phenomenon is understood, it may be viewed as divine; once it is discovered, it becomes a mere scientific fact. Human effort can be seen as a form of divinity; with the right determination, success is always within reach. Kindness, too, can be miraculous, especially as it is often rare in our world.
I have never considered myself a devout believer, yet "Miracles from Heaven" raises troubling questions. If some children suffer from fatal diseases, does that mean they are less favored by God? Is it fair to assume that very young children or even newborns could be cursed? The answers to these questions reside in the vast realms of yet undiscovered science. Humanity has yet to unlock many of the mysteries governing our existence, and perhaps if we did, the concept of divine miracles would fade away. If solutions are available, why rely on external help? Self-reliance is often the most effective approach.
Chapter 2: The Legacy of Stephen Hawking
Now, let's delve into the remarkable life of Professor Hawking. Consider the immense effort required to author a scientific book while grappling with physical limitations. How did he manage to research black holes despite struggling to communicate? Was it divine intervention, or was it his sheer determination that allowed him to achieve such monumental feats? Who, then, was God in his life? Was it a celestial figure he never encountered, or was it his wife, who devoted herself to supporting him throughout their journey? Or perhaps it was his own perseverance that transcended medical boundaries.
In contemporary society, we often encounter the genre known as science fiction, which paints imaginative scenarios of the future. What seems impossible today, like residing on the moon, could very well become reality in the next century. Countless dreams and aspirations exist beyond current scientific understanding, often deemed miraculous due to our limited knowledge. Many people cherish the notion of a deity capable of transforming the impossible into reality—though this may only apply to a select few, as they might believe.
Everyone possesses their unique interpretation of miracles, though many go unacknowledged. It's worth noting that the idea of God can sometimes foster complacency among individuals. Achievements require effort, kindness, and determination. In essence, God seems to favor those who embody goodness, diligence, and compassion. Perhaps that is why miracles appear to manifest more frequently for those who strive to be extraordinary.
The first video, "What is God? | Eckhart Tolle Explains," delves into various interpretations of God, offering insights that complement the themes discussed here.
The second video, "Who Is God? (THIS IS SO POWERFUL)," presents a compelling perspective on the divine, challenging viewers to reconsider their beliefs and understandings.
