Finding Solutions to Our Challenges: The Power of Awareness

Chapter 1: Understanding Conditioning
For years, I have sought to comprehend why certain individuals inflict harm on their children. What drives someone to undermine a child's formative years, potentially leading to devastating consequences for both the child and society?
Mental health issues that are often ignored due to cultural norms? There could be numerous explanations—some rooted in science, some philosophical, and others spiritual. Regardless of their origins, they share a common thread: awareness. While this does not excuse any harmful actions, it allows for a different perspective on such behaviors, enabling individuals to navigate life with reduced burdens of "why?"
Science indicates that a child enters this world with a brain operating predominantly in Alpha and Theta states until around the age of seven—essentially in a state of hypnosis—absorbing everything in their environment. Do their thoughts influence them as well? Controlling thoughts is no simple task...
Most subsequent decisions are influenced by these foundational experiences. This "autopilot" activates and incorporates additional information over time. If children had access to different perspectives during their formative years, they might perceive the world less fearfully, with greater confidence, and possibly avoid becoming someone they are not.
Thus, the essence of our issues may lie in conditioning…
“Give me a child until he is seven, and I will show you the man.”
— Aristotle
These foundational experiences resemble the base of a structure. If childhood is fraught with difficulties and negative conditioning, the metaphorical house may be unstable. The materials selected for its construction were based on limited perceived options, without consideration for alternatives. Why? Because the foundation was built on a narrow understanding that deemed certain materials “compatible.”
If an individual's choices are constrained by conditioning, where lies the genuine freedom to choose between good and evil?
Some individuals recognize that they inhabit a crumbling house and choose to dismantle it, having never had a say in its construction or design. They often draw strength from crises, life-altering experiences, or frightening events, leading them to reject their haunted dwelling. Each demolition brings pain, sacrifice, existential questioning, hardship, criticism, isolation, confusion, and suffering... Yet, they clear away the debris and resolve to rebuild. It’s a challenging journey… Who claimed that constructing a new life would be simple?
Conversely, others resign themselves to living in a dilapidated house. They spend their days lamenting the crooked pictures and the uneven floors, which defines their existence. Their mindset can be toxic or serene, depending on the foundational experiences they carry.
Then, there are those oblivious to their living conditions—often including predators, dogmatic thinkers, and individuals blinded by ideologies. Some may even profess happiness...
For those feeling lost yet sensing a pathway out of their troubles:
Becoming aware that you are not merely the product of received programming, nor the result of autopilot choices, nor confined by culture or ideology—this awareness empowers you to progress, heal, and reconnect with your true self. It allows you to awaken and discover who you really are.
Truth is something to be discovered—not merely learned.
While this concept may seem straightforward, its application is not universal due to pervasive cultural conditioning; some face daunting challenges. Not everyone enjoys the same opportunities—those who claim otherwise have likely never ventured beyond their sheltered environments.
Individuals equipped to grasp this understanding and apply it may find more options for resolving their issues, potentially aiding others and contributing to a collective evolution in thought.
“Everything is energy, and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want, and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy; this is physics.”
— Albert Einstein
Through this understanding, you begin to choose the materials for your new life, selecting the energy you invest in various aspects. You start determining the form you give to your experiences.
You may even reach a point of reflection, allowing for forgiveness towards those who harmed you, recognizing their ignorance without equating forgiveness with tolerating their actions.
Bruce Lee succinctly expressed it: “Be water, my friend.”
As unsolicited advice—mold your own vessel and adopt the shape that fosters your growth. Remember, many still do not realize they have been placed into someone else’s mold. Extend that understanding to them as well.
While the sensation of thinking and actual thought are not synonymous, many good individuals exist, some experiencing happiness or the illusion of it due to their conditioning. That is their path… Awareness cannot be imposed—it is not a technique but rather a personal journey. The only way to contribute is by sharing your own experiences.
What could address many of our issues and prevent the destruction of children's lives and those around them? The answer lies in awareness.
“It is essential to discover an educational approach that encourages lifelong learning.”
— Rudolf Steiner
