Chapter 1: The Nature of Absence
In contemplating the cosmos, one might wonder about the potential absent-mindedness of deities, demons, or even black holes. With such staggering and focused acts of creation, could it be that a bit of forgetfulness slips in? When faced with the immensity of the universe and the countless entities within it, how could any being possibly maintain awareness of everything?
This scenario evokes thoughts of chaotic madness. To perceive and understand everything simultaneously, without any division, while managing the overwhelming flow of information across unfathomable scales—this would be a task of unimaginable complexity. As the flickering lights of existence dim and ignite across infinite universes, alongside countless iterations of a billion trillion realities, it fills me with a profound sense of monotony. The relentless expansion of universes nestled within black holes can feel like a continuous cycle of creation.
The spaces between these realities, where nothing comes into being, are eerily silent and empty. It is in this void that I might experience a fleeting moment of forgetfulness, stretching across billions of years. In this silence, all existence feels uniform.
The tranquility of such vacuums is soothing, allowing one to momentarily forget the identities we hold—be it I, we, or they. Such stillness expands my thoughts, free from the overwhelming noise of life, both external and internal. To truly appreciate this profound silence, one must let go of the cacophony of the creative symphony that often overwhelms the self, referred to as the "Collectiveness of I."
As you gaze into the expansive sky, seeking something beyond your own essence, the infinite darkness is punctuated only by stars, positioned across distances that are impossible to traverse within a single lifetime.
As a brief aside, it’s not merely the vastness that prevents journeys to far-off galaxies; it is the limitations of human lifespan. Even with advancements like faster-than-light travel, one would still contend with relativistic effects upon returning home. A two-year expedition to a distant star could mean returning to find everyone you ever knew has passed away, leaving you an alien in an unfamiliar world.
Until lifespans are significantly extended, or until our perception of movement through time and space becomes unified, true exploration remains out of reach. Only then could one experience the present as both now and then, nullifying the effects of relativity.
The beauty of silence is profound—an everlasting quiet that resonates throughout mythology. Might the gods mourn the absence of such stillness? Perhaps this is the purpose of the "in-between" spaces. One might be tempted to consider that in these voids, we could traverse dimensions, defying the constraints of time and lifespan.
In honesty, I would not mislead you; there exists a pathway through these realms. However, tread carefully, for therein lies the slumbering gods.
